THE CONFRONTING KITCHEN  | Deconstruction and reconstruction of the Frankfurt kitchen

The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Copenhagen. 2010. Workshop by ben&sebastian.

The analysis is based on the social studies of architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzy, which generated her functionalistic Frankfurt kitchen for social housing in 1929.

Point of origin - A non-confronting kitchen for one person. All is constructed to be perfectly functional and organized, so the user can cook without meeting any unexpected scenarios.

Challenge - The Frankfurt kitchen is addressed by introducing a second person, leading to social and spatial confrontations.
