SCHOOL VALLETTA  | Transition and Connection

The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Copenhagen. 2010.

This school in Valletta, Malta, offers training in various professions regarding food and restaurants. The facilities contain various educational facilities and student housing, but it also serves as a meeting point in the city, with restaurants and public events.

The program is distributed according to its relation to the public, and the three buildings are thus defined by a gradient from the spatially introverted to the extroverted. This is achieved through levels, spatial shifts and different degrees of 'open' and 'closed'. The entire facility is connected by the main public square, which both combines the three buildings into one whole and, simultaneously, activates the street and the public life of the city.
